Society for Game Cinematics Unveils Vision for the Future at Special Event During GDC
San Francisco, CA – On March 18, 2025, the Society for Game Cinematics (SGC) gathered at Adobe Headquarters in Downtown San Francisco to unveil key initiatives shaping the future of the organization. Timed alongside the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), the event brought together hundreds of industry professionals, game developers, and cinematic creators to celebrate the ever-growing impact of video game cinematics.
Emily Hsu, President of the Society for Game Cinematics, addressed the audience, stating, "We've been building on our society's mission since 2022, and today we share details of how we continue to deliver on those efforts." Hsu highlighted the Society's humble origins and its ongoing commitment to bringing the community together.
The event also featured announcements from two of the Society's original co-founders. Vice President Brian Horn introduced the SGC Membership Program offering exciting new benefits designed to strengthen and support the game cinematics community. Newly added tiers for “Professional” and “Emerging Talent” members aim to provide valuable resources, enhance professional growth for members at all levels, and offer a ‘Founding Members’ status exclusive to members joining its 2025 inaugural membership class. Membership applications will open next month, but information about the tiers and benefits are available on the website now.
In a highly anticipated announcement, Greg Mitchell, Awards Committee Chairman, unveiled plans for the 1st Annual Cinematic Awards in 2026. The ceremony will celebrate outstanding achievements in video game cinematics and recognize excellence across various categories, cementing the Society’s role as a driving force on the cinematic side of game development. Details on category rules and deadlines, plus the date and location of the inaugural event will follow in the coming months.
With these initiatives, the Society for Game Cinematics reaffirms its commitment to elevating the role of cinematics in the gaming industry and fostering a thriving community of creative professionals.
The event was made possible through sponsorships from Adobe, Rouge MoCap, Waterproof Studios, and The Gnomon Workshop who are all instrumental in supporting the Society’s mission to elevate the art of game cinematics.
“We’re proud to continue expanding the Society’s mission and impact,” said Hsu. “The Society for Game Cinematics continues to pave the way for greater recognition of cinematic talent in the gaming world, ensuring that the artistry behind this vital part of game storytelling receives the spotlight it deserves.”
