Presented by Unreal Engine, the Society for Game Cinematics (SGC) hosted the 1st Annual Cinematic Awards on Tuesday, March 10, bringing together artists, developers, and studios from across the industry to celebrate the craft of game cinematics. For many in attendance, the evening felt long overdue.

Game cinematics have become some of the most powerful storytelling moments in modern games, blending animation, filmmaking, performance, sound design, and technology into experiences that resonate with players around the world. The Cinematic Awards were created to recognize the artists and teams behind that work and to give this creative discipline its own stage.

The inaugural ceremony brought the community together for an evening filled with celebration, laughter, and heartfelt appreciation. Guests arrived in style, lighting up the red carpet with everything from sharp suits to elegant gowns, setting the tone for a memorable night. Inside the theater, the atmosphere was electric. The evening featured conversations and reconnections during the pre-event reception, enthusiastic applause throughout the ceremony, and continued celebration at the afterparty. Many attendees shared how meaningful it was to finally gather as a community dedicated to game cinematics. By the end of the night, the audience rose to its feet with a 2-minute standing ovation, a moment of appreciation not just for the nominees, but for the volunteers and organizers who worked tirelessly to bring the event to life.

Volunteers were truly at the heart of the Cinematic Awards. Members of the SGC community, along with student volunteers from Savannah College of Art and Design and Texas A&M University, played a critical role in making the evening run smoothly and creating a welcoming environment for everyone in attendance.

The evening’s top honors went to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which took home the award for Excellence in Game Cinematics and Best Real-Time Cinematic. Other standout winners included Dispatch and Fortnite – The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge, both of which earned multiple awards for their outstanding work.
