Society for Game Cinematics and Unreal Engine Present the First Annual Cinematic Awards

The Society for Game Cinematics (SGC) and Unreal Engine — the industry-leading real-time game engine from interactive company Epic Games — present the 1st Annual Cinematic Awards, a new industry recognition event honoring excellence in game cinematics, storytelling, and real-time narrative craft.

The Cinematic Awards are dedicated exclusively to the artists, technicians, and creative leaders who bring story to life within the interactive worlds of video games. As games continue to evolve as a dominant storytelling medium, the awards aim to shine a spotlight on the often unseen craft behind narrative-presented moments that resonate deeply with players.

“Game cinematics sit at the intersection of filmmaking, animation, and interactive technology,” said Greg Mitchell, Co-Founder and Awards Chair of the Society for Game Cinematics. “These awards exist to recognize the people who dedicate their careers to pushing that craft forward and to celebrate cinematic excellence within games as its own distinct art form.”

“Real-time engines have fundamentally changed how stories are told in games,” said Lina Song, Co-Founder of the Society for Game Cinematics. “By partnering with the leading industry game engine, Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, we’re acknowledging not just the tools, but the creative ambition and collaboration that make modern game cinematics possible.”

The 1st Annual Cinematic Awards are also supported by a growing group of industry partners who share a commitment to advancing cinematic craft in games. Supporting sponsors include AMD, Puget Systems, and Rouge Studios.

The inaugural Cinematic Awards will feature twelve award categories recognizing excellence across Art, Sound, Creative, Technical, and overall Cinematic Achievement. Nominees will be selected by a jury of experienced industry professionals spanning games, film, animation, and interactive media.

“Our goal is not only to celebrate outstanding work, but to elevate the conversation around cinematic craft in games,” added Marianne Hayden, Co-Founder of the SGC. “These moments matter to players. They shape emotional connection, deepen narrative, and help define the identity of a game.”

The Cinematic Awards are an official affiliate partner of GDC Festival of Gaming by Informa and will take place on March 10th at the AMC Metreon 16 IMAX during the week of the Game Developers Conference (GDC) celebration.
